Geek Girls Goal Setting turns one year old!

It’s been a little over a year since I launched the monthly goal-setting group via Geek Girls of the East Valley.

At the time, my best friend and I were both feeling stalled in life. We had an idea of what we wanted, just felt a little unsure about how to get there. During one very long phone call, an unspoken agreement was made: She would hold me to my goals if I held her to her own.

We began communicating our excitements, frustrations and fears on a frequent basis. Speaking our wants out loud and writing them down enlivened us both pretty quickly and inspired a lot more positivity and hope, even though we both knew there was a lot of work ahead. We became each other’s top cheerleader and refused to accept excuses from each other. Teamwork is a powerful thing and we have definitely reaped the benefits.

Sharing these ambitions with another person made them seem more possible than when kept close to the chest. I realized other people could probably use this sort of support. I scheduled the meeting and showed up feeling sick, scattered and dressed in pajamas. It’s a miracle anyone returned but they did and more came over time.

Watching others realize their own power and talent has been an incredible experience.

In a few weeks, we are getting together for our second round of vision board creation. You should come join us and see what all the hubbub is about:

If you can’t make it (or if you’re a dude) check out my post on how to create your own vision board to help pave the way for an incredible 2011!
